MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach is number 10 on the The Simple Dollar's list of the top 10 most affordable cities to retire in the U.S.

Myrtle Beach is reportedly a good place for active seniors to retire. Median home prices, average rent of a one-bedroom apartment and a cost of living index was measured in over 200 popular retirement communities.

Weather and culture were also considered. The analysis came from ratings and reviews in Forbes, U.S. News and World Report and others.

"The Myrtle Beach area is the perfect place for retirees because of its affordable housing, lower taxes, excellent healthcare and 60 miles of beautiful, sandy beaches that will ensure an active lifestyle," said Brad Dean, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Simple Dollar's chosen top 10 most affordable cities to retire are:

• Alexandria, La.

• Winston-Salem, N.C.

• Gainesville, Fla.

• Knoxville, Tenn.

• San Angelo, Texas

• Syracuse, N.Y.
