Two local fire departments hiring

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Two local fire departments are hiring.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue is currently accepting applications for their Communication and Detention Division for the position of Communication Technician and Jailer. This position is a cross trained position for E-911 Dispatch and their jail.

Accepted applicant will receive and process requests for law enforcement, Emergency Medical Services and Fire, dispatching same to appropriate personnel for response to requests, ensuring calls are handled in a professional and timely manner.

Applicant must be able to work under stressful, high-risk conditions.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and be at least 21 years of age with one to two years of experience. Communications School Certification, basic jail training and NCIC Certification is preferred.

Applicants must be physically able to operate video equipment, an alarm panel and a variety of automated office machines which includes a typewriter, computer, dictaphone, calculator, and others. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.

The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for an experienced Firefighter EMT. This position responds to emergency situations within the City to perform fire suppression, hazardous materials incident response and rescue duties as well as administers CPR and first aid and removes victims from danger.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma plus a minimum of one to two years of experience in the firefighting and EMT field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requires knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants much possess a Firefighter II certification, an EMT certification and a valid driver's license.

Applicants must be physically able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment. Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to push, stoop, lift, pull, reach, kneel, climb, crouch, carry or otherwise move objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry weights up to 80 pounds.
