Myrtle Beach couple keeps a $1 million lottery win under wraps

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – If you won $1 million, could you keep it a secret? A Myrtle Beach couple did – they kept their $1 million Powerball win under wraps for nearly two weeks.

"We're going to pretend like nothing happened," said the wife.

"But we're tickled to death," said the husband.

He bought the winning ticket from Haksim Inc. on Highway 544 in Myrtle Beach for the July 12 drawing. The ticket stayed in his truck for several days, until he heard the store had sold a $1 million ticket. They sat at the kitchen table, checked the numbers, and sure enough…

"That's them!" his wife screamed jumping back from the table.  "What do we do?  We won! We won!"

They signed the ticket and waited until they could both take off work to go to Columbia and turn the ticket in.

"Winning the Lottery makes you stop and think," the husband said, accepting the check for his winnings.  "It humbles me."

Haksim Inc. received a $10,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.

The odds of winning a $1 million prize from the Powerball are 1 in 5,153,633.
