HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A 20-year-old man was arrested after shooting a dog to death in Horry County, police said.

Cortez Sherman has been charged with pointing and presenting firearms at a person, two counts of cruelty to children and ill treatment of animals, according to jail records.

Sherman reportedly drove into a yard on Adrian Highway with another person. The pair got out of their car, then told the person there they were taking the dog, the report states.

The woman said the dog didn't belong to her. Sherman and another suspect grabbed a rifle from the back of their car then shot the dog at least four times, killing it.

Sherman remains behind bars at J. Reuben Detention Center.
