MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach was named one of the most affordable family vacation destinations by TripAdvisor.

TripAdvisor, the largest travel site, chose Myrtle Beach as a top value destination for summer vacation rental. It ranked the Grand Strand number four of 15 destinations on the list. This includes the price of a two bedroom vacation rental, basic groceries, dinner out and bike rentals, for a week in the summer. The total equaled $1,433.89, for a family of four in Myrtle Beach.

Palm Springs, California takes the top spot, for about 200-dollars less. While these sound like great deals, travel experts say, there's only one way to get them.

"Plan your vacation as far in advance as you can in order to get what you want and save the most. If you're coming to Myrtle Beach, any time is a good time to come but please try to plan ahead. If you're going to another destination do your research, don't just wing it," said George Driscoll, CTC at All About Travel.

Travel experts recommend double checking all the deals you find with them, especially those you find online.

If you can't make the stop to a travel agent or just want to book your trip all on your own there are free tools you can use, with just a click of a button, right on your smart phone.

Apps are making it easier to cut costs, like, using the GasBuddy app to map out the cheapest gas stations on you drive.

"Road ninja," is like a companion on a road trip, it gives you more direction on your drive. You can find a place to stay and book it through the app, find out what's coming up at each exit when you drive and even redeem special offers on your phone.

Even if you're just in the planning process, there's an app for that, too. "KAYAK" will help you book flights and hotels and alert you when prices go down. Popular websites like Trip Advisor, Expedia and AAA also make it easy to book mobile or online.
