AYNOR, SC (WMBF) - The town of Aynor welcomed home the Dixie Softball X-Play Ponytails softball team with a parade and celebration Thursday.
The team won the 2014 South Carolina state championship at the tournament in Bluffton, Coach Carlton Lewis confirmed.
The girls will represent the state of South Carolina at the Dixie Softball World Series in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. The team is scheduled to arrive August 1, with actual play beginning on August 2.
Prior to the victory, the team had two victories over Lancaster, beat Turbeville, and defeated Florence. Although, a loss to Jefferson would cost the Ponytails a perfect season, the team returned to defeat them in the championship game Thursday, July 17.
Twelve players make up the team: Claire Lewis, Natalie Nobles, Layna Johnson, Kara Singleton, Rynn Bethea, Jules Johnson, Emily Squires, Kayden Ray, Grier Brown, Katie Gunter, Carly Goewey, and Mallorie Brown.
