Hartsville dad signs hot car petition

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - A petition aimed at preventing children from dying in hot cars has hit the White House website.

One of the 739 signatures is from Richie Gray.

Gray's daughter Sophia died in Hartsville earlier this summer when Gray forgot her in the car while he was working.

The petition asks to provide funding for research and development of innovative technology; identify, evaluate and test new technology; and require installation of technology in all vehicles to prevent children from being left alone left alone.

One hundred thousand signatures are needed by August 13 to get a response from the White House.
