Petition hopeful submits signatures to face Scott

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A Mount Pleasant businesswoman has submitted signatures to run as a petition challenger to U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.

State Election Commission records show 54-year-old Brandon Armstrong on Monday submitted more than 12,500 signatures from registered voters.

If the commission verifies Armstrong's submission, she will be an independent on the November ballot against Scott, Democrat Joyce Dickerson and American Party hopeful Jill Bossi.

On her website, Armstrong says she runs a painting and restoration business and tells supporters she does not want financial contributions.

Among her proposals is a military training program for all high school graduates 18 years and older, with students doing weekend and summer training in exchange for free college.
