Calhoun County town gets grant for drainage system

Posted: Updated:

CAMERON, S.C. (AP) - The Calhoun County town of Cameron is getting help from the federal government to ease flooding.

The town has received a $750,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to renovate its drainage system which dates to the early 1900s.

Mayor David Summers tells the Times and Democrat of Orangeburg ( ) that there's been a lot of flooding of homes and businesses during storms. Summers says an engineer's report concluded the drainage system is not up to modern standards.

He says the town's stormwater system was installed in the 1920s or 1930s.
