NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – An Atlantic Beach man will serve a total of three years in prison for fatally striking a bicyclist in July and an unrelated robbery charge, according to court records.

Court records state that Demetrius Cordel Hall, 25, pleaded guilty Thursday to robbery and felony driving under the influence with death results.

North Myrtle Beach Spokesperson Pat Dowling said Hall was driving a Nissan when he struck and killed Herminio Vasquez Mendoza, 33, who was riding a bicycle in a southbound lane of Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach.

Hall continued to drive a few blocks south before going back to the scene of the accident where he was contacted by police. Hall was given sobriety tests and found to be intoxicated.

Police took Hall to Seacoast Medical Center where a search warrant was served on his blood. A blood sample was given without incident.
