HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Before and after aerial snapshots were taken of the Highway 501 Widening Project.

The hired site development and construction company, Palmetto Corp. snapped photos of the heavily trafficked stretch of Highway 501 before, during and after the project.

Road crews completed work on the widening of Highway 501 in May.

Highway 501 is now one lane wider from the Tanger Outlets to Gardner Lacy Road.

The job consisted of widening a 2.1-mile stretch of the northbound lanes from two lanes to three lanes.

Construction began in October 2013. The project cost $4.9 million, according to SCDOT officials.

Construction for southbound lanes is scheduled to begin in 2018.

    The Pawleys Island Chapel is being carefully moved across the street Friday so that repairs can be made on the building’s foundation. The church, which has been in the Pawleys Island community for about 50 years, is being lifted and moved across Myrtle Avenue between the North and South Causeways.
