Myrtle Beach Police Department now accepting applications for Police Academy

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Myrtle Beach Police Department is now accepting applications for session 28 of the Citizen's Police Academy (CPA).

Classes will commence on Monday, September 8 at the Myrtle Beach Police Annex located at 3340 Mustang Street (Old Air Force Base) and will continue to meet every Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks. Graduation will be on November 10.

Applicants must be:
- 21 years of age or older
- Reside in Horry County
- Undergo a criminal background check

The purpose of this academy is to give individuals who are interested in law enforcement a greater insight into police practices, police services, and how the police department works with the community.

The course will cover Crime Scene Investigation, Emergency Vehicle Operations and simulated firearms training.

Applications are due Wednesday, July 23 at 5 p.m.

    A threat was discovered written on a bathroom wall at Conway High School, according to a post on the school’s Facebook page. The threat was “a derogatory statement about a teacher,” and was investigated by school officials and law enforcement.
