Croissants crowns 2014 cupcake eating contest winner

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - 41 contestants participated in Croissants Bistro & Bakery's 3rd Annual Cupcake Eating Contest & Festival on Friday, July 4, 2014.

Contestants were given five minutes to eat as many cupcakes as possible. Two contestants, Chris Chagnon and Robbie Bryant, tied for second place each consuming 23 cupcakes. First place was awarded to William Flynn who devoured 24 cupcakes and was named Myrtle Beach's "2014 Cupcake Champion".

The first place prize package included a trophy, medal and tickets to Myrtle Beach area attractions, restaurants and retail stores as well as an Ocean Front Vacation Package, all valued close to $1500.

Over 1,500 cupcakes were prepared and over 1,000 consumed. After the competition, the spectators were given the remaining cupcakes to enjoy.

New South Brewery sponsored the event and proceeds from beer sales were given to the Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach at HGTC.
