LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) – The owner of a motel in Lumberton was stabbed multiple times Sunday morning; police say the suspect is in the hospital after suffering a "medical event."

Ashok Vyas, 62, the owner and a clerk at the Deluxe inn on Capuano Street was allegedly stabbed multiple times by 44-year-old Don Locklear, according to Detective Terry Parker with Lumberton Police.

When a Lumberton Police officer arrived at the scene, Locklear was still there, but was having a "medical event" that resulted in him going to the hospital. Police have an outstanding warrant against Locklear for assault with a  deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, Det. Parker confirmed.

Police are waiting to interview Locklear for details on why the incident occurred.
