One person killed in collision near Murrells Inlet

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Five people were taken to the hospital and one person died after a collision in Georgetown County Thursday night.

The driver of a Chrysler 300 died after hitting a Chevrolet Trailblazer at the intersection of US 17 and US 17 Bypass in near Murrells Inlet, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The deceased victim was identified as 50-year-old Richard Weldon, according to Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway. The accident occurred at around 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

All four passengers of the Chrysler and the driver of the Trailblazer were taken to a nearby hospital.
