MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It's the most patriotic time of the year. Americans fly their flags high, sing America's praises, celebrate with fireworks and fall in love with America all over again.
But what about the rest of the year?
South Carolina has ranked number one as the most patriotic state in the country, according to a Movoto Real Estate study.
To find out how patriotic each state was, Movoto Real Estate made a list of criteria that they considered to be pretty indicative of proud Americans. Those criteria were historic landmarks, veterans, money spent to fund veterans, percent of those who voted in the 2012 Presidential election, the number of people who bought American flags and those who put "America" as an interest on Facebook.
Movoto Real Estate received their data from sources like the 2012 U.S. Census, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Google Trends, Facebook, and Wikipedia.
The first star-spangled state on the list was South Carolina, home to a lot of Southern and U.S. Pride. Even though it didn't vote as much as many of the other states in 2012, South Carolina showed up as patriotic across the rest of the board.
South Carolina has the most people searching for American Flags on Google and the seventh most veteran residents per capita. Those veterans also receive the 16th most funding, showing that this state knows how to pay respect to those that worked hard for the United States. There are also plenty of national historical landmarks around South Carolina, including USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier that people enjoying visiting.
After gathering some data, Movoto Real Estate found that the following listed below were the rest of the top 10 most patriotic states in America:
