Okey making most of summer with Team USA

FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) - Team USA made a return appearance to the Pee Dee this summer, but wasn't able to get in a game against the Florence RedWolves. Due to severe weather in the area, the exhibition matchup had to be cancelled. Team USA travels to Morehead City, South Carolina on Saturday while the RedWolves will head to Asheboro.

For the second straight year, there is a regional tie to the Collegiate National Baseball Team at the catcher position. Clemson backstop Chris Okey has been named to the club this year. He also joins right handed pitcher Bailey Ober from the College of Charleston this summer.

Team USA is currently on a tour of the Coastal Plains League. On Thursday, it beat the Columbia Blowfish 9-1. Beginning in July, the team will host Chinese Taipei for a five game series, then host Japan from July 6-8. Team USA concludes its summer with trips to The Netherlands and Havana, Cuba.
