NWS issues flood advisory for southern Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for southern Horry County until 10:30 p.m. Friday.

The following was issued by the NWS at around 9:30 p.m.:

"AT 934 PM EDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR DETECTED A

THUNDERSTORM NEARLY STALLED OVER MYRTLE BEACH.

THIS STORM IS VERY SMALL IN SIZE BUT WILL PRODUCE MINOR FLOODING IN

THE MYRTLE BEACH AREA.

ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF UP TO AN INCH AND A HALF ARE POSSIBLE

IN THE ADVISORY AREA.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING AT POOR DRAINAGE LOCATIONS.

PONDING OF WATER CAN BE EXPECTED AT LOW SPOTS AT INTERSECTIONS...

STREETS...AND UNDERPASSES. OTHER LOW-LYING AREAS LIKE RETENTION PONDS

AND DRAINAGE DITCHES WILL BECOME FLOODED AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED. DO

NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED AREAS SINCE YOUR VEHICLE MAY STALL AND YOU

MAY BECOME STRANDED.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE

DANGERS OF FLOODING. THE WATER DEPTH WILL BE HARD TO DETERMINE ALONG

ROADS...AND THE LOCATION OF THE ADJACENT DRAINAGE DITCHES WILL BE

DIFFICULT TO IDENTIFY. KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE FROM STREAMS...CREEKS AND

DITCHES. IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN."
