NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A controlled burn spread to Highway 31 near Robert Edge Parkway in North Myrtle Beach Friday afternoon, blocking traffic, officials confirmed.
Horry County Fire Rescue and North Myrtle Beach fire crews responded to the fire at about 12:30 p.m., said HCFR spokesman Brian VanAernem.
The fire began as a controlled burn off Bourne Trail which extended beyond the breaks, causing spot fires along the side of Highway 31, according to tweets from North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue.
Everything was contained by 1:30 p.m., a tweet stated, and crews remained on scene to mop up. Officials stated smoke would continue to linger on Highway 31 south of Robert Edge for at least a couple of hours.
