Mothers come together in honor of murder victims, will hold rally Saturday

The mothers of two young women connected in an unthinkable way were among the intimate crowd that gathered at the Community Resource Center in Summerville.

"They knew each other, but they have both died in the same sort of incident."

Twenty-three-year-old Sierra Truesdale and 22-year-old Sandy Patrice Geddis Barnwell were both shot and killed almost one year apart. Truesdale was murdered last July on her birthday while celebrating at a club in St. George. Barnwell was killed in Myrtle Beach over Memorial Day weekend.

"They were not involved in any wrong doing, had not committed crimes,” says Melody Geddis McFadden, Barnwell’s aunt. “They were just out to have fun with their friends, and they were randomly, senselessly, violently shot down."

Twenty-one-year-old DeVonte Dantzler was also killed in the triple murder in Myrtle Beach. He was an only child. His mother was very distraught on Thursday, but she had a message.

"We all have to live in this world together,” says Patrina Dantzler. “So, the only way we can do it is by educating our kids and showing them love."

Loved ones say closure isn't possible until someone is held responsible.

"It has been real rough for us because we're trying to actually understand what's actually going on with the case and what's transpiring with getting closure to what happened to my nephew," says Kimberly Dantzler, DeVonte’s aunt.

"We need to know,” says McFadden. “That's the first step of healing for us is to know that there is justice for Sandy and there is justice for Sierra."

The families will hold a rally on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Wassamassaw Park in Summerville.
