Today's Most: High school offers refund for embarrassing yearbook

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

TODAY'S MOST UPDATE: A high school decided to offer a refund for its yearbook that was full of mistakes.

The principal at Winter Park High School in Florida said on Monday students and parents will have the option of asking for a refund, or waiting for a replacement DVD that should be ready this summer.

The 340-page books cost $50 to $70 each, and had numerous typos, misspellings, unattributed quotes and misidentified photographs.

When the controversy started last week, the principal admitted the book never got copy edited before it was sent out to be published. He also said a new yearbook advisor was hired in the middle of the school year.

Here are some examples of the mistakes that appear in the book:

"Aquring a healthy lifestyle was the main goal of the Health Fairand
many studnets helped accomplish it."

"Once our coached gave us out pep talk I was able to get in the water and warm up."

"In the attemps of snatching the ball from the opposing team, Elliott Hammond and Cameron Gergley clash nto one another."

There was also a page about a student winning a poetry competition. However, there was a picture of a different student on the page, as well as a quote that the winning student says he never gave.

A local publisher told the Orlando Sentinel "I find it really inexplicable that anyone in authority would let it go out in that condition..."It's like a full-color advertisement" confirming people's worst conceptions about the kind of job public schools do."
