Three boaters rescued in Berkeley County released from hospital

Posted: Updated:
BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Three boaters rescued on Lake Moultrie early Monday morning have been treated and released from the hospital, a hospital spokesman confirmed.

Calvin Cumbee III, 20; Kaleb Caddell, 23; and Jessica Jessup, 21, were found clinging to their overturned boat about eight hours after if flipped over, officials with the Berkeley County Rescue Squad said.

Rescue teams located the boaters' car and trailer at the Russellville Boat Landing, and began the search on the lake after being notified the boaters did not return Sunday night.

Around 1:30 a.m. Monday, officials located an overturned boat, and the three boaters. Authorities say two of the boaters were holding onto the boat, the other was holding on to a cooler.

The trio told officials the boat had turned over between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities say the boaters were taken to Trident Medical Center where they were treated for hypothermia.

SCDNR assisted in the search.
