BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

During the operations committee meeting, school officials were briefed on Monday night's bus accident.

According to Bobby Taylor, Director of Transportation Services in Brunswick County, all students involved in the bus accident near the intersection of HWY 211 and Midway Road Monday have been released from the hospital.

The accident that happened around 4 p.m. Monday involved a blue Subaru and a school bus. Taylor said seven students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the bus was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries. There were a total of 46 students on the bus.

According to Oak Island Police, the driver of the Subaru was Arthur Gerald Seifert. Seifert was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is in fair condition. The bus driver, Vernessa Genrette Hankins of Supply, was also taken to NHRMC and was released late Monday night. Others injured in the accident were taken to Dosher.

According to Brunswick County Schools, the bus involved is a multi functional bus for both South Brunswick Middle and High schools. According to Taylor, the bus' design actually helped keep the passengers from being harmed further.

The bus is currently out of operation. Charges are pending as the investigation is still on going.
