Witness in I-20 Girl case gives inside look into what he saw in 2000

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The lone witness Darlington County investigators said may have placed John Wayne Boyer and Michelle Haggadone together hours before her murder, gives WIS an inside look at his account of the I-20 Girl case. Jonathan Threatt met with North Carolina investigators in 2011 and gave a statement.

Former Darlington County Sheriff's Office Captain Andy Locklair accused Boyer of killing Haggadone in July 2000 and dumping her body at an Interstate 20 rest area for truckers. Locklair called Boyer a serial killer during a 2011 press conference. A WIS investigation found that Locklair never got a murder warrant on Boyer until days before our investigation aired on April 9. Locklair resigned eight days after getting the warrant. Sheriff Wayne Byrd said Locklair failed to follow procedure and "subsequently attempting to cover up that fact," Byrd wrote in an April 4 press release.

Threatt told WIS he drove a tractor trailer for Twisdale Trucking in Leland, N.C. hauling nails and fasteners to Texas. Threatt told investigators he was driving with Boyer on a trip to Texas in July of 2000 when he spotted a Volkswagen and a woman stopped along Interstate 95 in Dillon County. Threatt said Boyer "slammed on brakes" and pulled over near the woman. Threatt said he continued on his route and didn't see Boyer until two days later at their drop off in Texas.

Based on that information Threatt gave investigators during an interview in 2011, Darlington County thought that woman may have been Haggadone and used Threatt's account to support the murder warrant against Boyer. Investigators have not re-interviewed Threatt as of this report. Darlington County also has not served that murder warrant on Boyer as of this report.

Threatt went on the record in October with WIS, giving an account of what went down the day investigators think Haggadone was murdered. The following video is Threatt in his own words.
