Dillon Motor Speedway celebrates 50th anniversary season

The local racing season kicked off today at Dillon motor speedway. It also marks the speedway's 50th anniversary season. Some of today's events included hosting the Carolina Vintage cars; late models, Super trucks and street stocks, all racing for up to $1200 in prize money.

In five decades, the speedway has seen some of auto racing's biggest names, including Bill and Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney and Jonny Sauter. While the prize money is good, for local drivers like Bobby Gower, the experience is often why he returns year after year.

"We normally try to make a couple trips a year. We've been coming for about three years now and Ron Barfield runs a pretty good show here," said Gower. "We enjoy taking the trip here to visit with him and run."

Gower also added the speedway's owner, Ron Barfield, and his extensive experience as a driver are part of what makes the trips to the Dillon Motor Speedway special for him.
