TRAVELERS REST, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The driver of an SUV that almost struck a police cruiser head-on and was involved in a fatal wreck moments later has been arrested, according to police.

Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe said an officer was patrolling Poinsett Highway when an SUV crossed the double yellow line to pass a car and almost struck the officer head-on.

The officer turned around and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the SUV took off at a high rate of speed, according to Crowe.

He said the officer attempted to catch up with the vehicle but was only able to get a description of the SUV.

In dashcam video released by the police department, the officer can be seen calling off the pursuit approximately 30 seconds after attempting to initiate a traffic stop.

Shortly after, officers were patrolling the area and came upon a two-car accident on Tubbs Mountain Road involving the SUV the officer was attempting to pull over, according to Crowe.

Crowe said one person was flown from the scene and a second was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said the driver of the car involved in the two-car crash died at the hospital.

Evans identified the driver as 70-year-old Donald Brown of Travelers Rest. He said Brown's car was hit on the driver's side by the SUV.

Crowe said the driver of the SUV was arrested when he was released from the hospital Thursday night.

Robert Frady Jr., 50, was charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death, failure to stop for blue lights resulting in death and driving under suspension. Frady is being held at the county detention center without bond.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Saturday, April 26 at Howzes Mortuary at 6714 State Park Rd. in Travelers Rest from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
