Local United Way loading 'May Day Bags' for elderly shut-ins

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The United Way of Horry County is collecting items this month to put in "May Day Bags" and deliver to elderly shut-ins during the first week of May.

The group is collecting items like toiletries, books, puzzles, and other special gift items to deliver to people identified through the Horry County Council on Aging and Mobile Meals of Myrtle Beach.

Interested volunteers can pick up bags at the Myrtle Beach Mall, fill them with appropriate items, and drop them off at a local Chamber of Commerce location, the Myrtle Beach Mall Office, or the United Way of Horry County offices.

This is the 14th year for the program. Last year, United Way delivered nearly 600 bags to elderly shut-ins, and the goal this year is 725 bags. The deadline to help with this year's May Day Bag delivery is April 25.

For more details on how to help and where to pick up and drop off May Day Bags, head here: http://unitedwayhcsc.org/events/may-day-bags/
