What: Myrtle Beach Resort Coordinates Earth Day Clean-Up
Ocean Creek Resort, a recent recipient of the prestigious TripAdvisor GreenLeader status, will be hosting a clean-up event at its 57-acre beachfront property to celebrate Earth Day 2014 on Tuesday, April 22.
Owners, guests of the resort and public who wishes to attend will be split up into four teams, each led by an Ocean Creek Resort manager, to compete in the event. Teams will be dispersed throughout the property beginning at 11 a.m. when they will sweep the area, picking up trash along the way. A final trash count will take place after the event to see which team has collected the most.
"While we practice green initiatives throughout the year, we are always looking for ways to give back to Mother Nature," said Sabrina Hilliard, Ocean Creek Resort general manager. "Team spirit and concern for the environment will be front and center."
Ocean Creek's green practices were recently recognized when they received GreenLeader recognition from TripAdvisor, making them only one of five properties in Myrtle Beach to receive this award. Requirements for this program include tracking energy usage, using a majority of energy-efficient light bulbs, recycling, staff training and guest education.
Additionally, Ocean Creek Resort uses automatic exterior lighting, EnergyStar appliances, locally grown produce and many more efforts to increase their environmental impact in a positive way.
"Being that our property is so large, we know that by making small environmental changes in the way we run the resort that we can make an impact and we hope others will do the same," said Hilliard.
