GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America joined South Carolina State Senator Karl Allen in a "stand your ground" forum Saturday.

The event was held in the Mount Pleasant community Center in Greenville.

Lucia McBath, the national spokesperson for Moms Demand Action spoke at the event.

McBath said her son Jordan Davis was killed during a dispute over loud music at a Florida gas station and the shooter used Florida's "stand your ground" law as his defense.

Allen, the District 7 state senator, also spoke at the event.

Allen said the event aimed to answer questions about what the law was, and how it is used in the court system.

"Twenty-six states have Stand Your Ground or similar laws on the books," said Erin Dando, SC chapter leader of Moms Demand Action. "These shoot first' states experience more violent crime than states without Stand Your Ground laws. South Carolinians can no longer afford to sit ideally by; we must speak up, work towards gun safety, vote with gun sense and demand action and accountability in strengthening our gun laws to protect lives."
