Corrections officer charged with grabbing inmate in patrol car while in Horry County

A corrections officer with the Dillon County Sheriff's Office has been charged with misconduct in office after an arrest warrant said he grabbed an inmate he was transporting in Horry County, according to court records.

Cecil Wadsworth Webster, 55, of Dillon, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 7:59 a.m. April 16. He was released later that morning after posting $5,000 bond, according to jail records.

The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is listed on the arrest warrant as the prosecuting agency.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on or about April 4 in Horry County, an arrest warrant states.

The warrant says the suspect did "grab, fondle and forcibly expose the breast of a female inmate whom had been released from the Dillon County Detention Center."

According to the warrant, the incident occurred in his patrol car as he was transporting the female inmate from the Dillon County jail to her home in Conway.

A spokesman for the Dillon County Sheriff's Office referred all inquiries, including the suspect's employment status, back to SLED.

Webster is due back in court on Sept. 5, according to the Horry County Public Index.
