PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – Three men were charged by the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office after investigators learned the suspects were planning to create a distraction at a school and then rob a nearby bank.

Ryan Bonneau, of North Charleston, Willie Edwards, of Pawleys Island, and Michael Hart, of Georgetown, were each charged with one count of criminal conspiracy. All three men were being housed at the Georgetown County Detention Center on unrelated charges when they devised the bank robbery plan.

According to a news release from the GCSO, investigators interviewed multiple people and determined that the suspects planned to create a diversion at the Waccamaw Elementary School's rear sports field and adjoining parking lot, away from students. The diversion was intended to distract deputies from a bank robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank, located at 13272 Ocean Highway in the Litchfield Community.

GCSO investigators determined the three men acted together without any assistance to plan the operation, and there is nothing to indicate there were more participants.
