NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - This summer season will welcome 10 new stores to Barefoot Landing, some which have already opened.
One of those stores, Yours and Mayan, has been open for a week. More shops include Hat Fanatic, My Mobile, Geneva Time Watch Exchange, and Tricksters Magic Shop; all these stores sell exactly what's in the name. M.R. Ducks will offer wildlife apparel and Crabby Jack's General Store offers everything from gifts to what you see at a convenience shop.
IT'S SUGAR and Auntie Anne's pretzels are also available for sweet tooth cravings. In addition to new stores, Barefoot Landing will be undergoing renovations from bathroom remodeling to landscaping.
Store employees at Yours and Mayan, say they're confident in their location at Barefoot, but more importantly, Barefoot's location on the Grand Strand.
"Because of all the groupings of the stores together that people can walk around. It's very scenic, as far as the areas with the water and the events that are going on. I think there's a lot of foot traffic," says Hazebrouck.
The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce says new attractions are important, "because we have so many repeat visitors, having new attractions, enhancements and upgrades helps give people who have been here before a reason to come back," says Communications Manager Brad Dickerson.
Barefoot Landing isn't the only place welcoming new attractions. Broadway at the Beach and the Market Common will also welcome new businesses. All with the same goal in mind - to drive in more visitors.
Broadway at the Beach, will welcome five new stores and four new rides, along with a new restaurant to Celebrity Square, Rooster Bar and Grill.
Visitors say places like Barefoot and Broadway are a draw because they have businesses you don't see at a lot of other destinations.
"You come here and you go to the mall, it's the same stores I have at home, so little villages like this are nice because the individuality of each shop is really neat," says Carol Hardiman, visiting from Virginia Beach.
That's one of the reasons Market Common recently opened Co-Sushi and has Charming Charlie, a women's accessory store, opening by the summer.
"I think it means that business is turning around for the Grand Strand which we love to hear because that's always good for us, the past two years has not been so great so its a positive sign for all of these stores to come in," says owner of The Silver Shack, Marsha Thorpe.
Six of the new stores at Barefoot Landing already have locations at Broadway at the Beach, including The Silver Shack, set to open this weekend
