CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - On the morning April 16, 2007 reports surfaced of a shooting on Virginia Tech's campus. As the day wore on, the news got worse, until the final number totaled 33 students and faculty members whose lives were taken, including the shooter. It is the deadliest shooting in US history.
Days later, on April 20, 2007, Coastal Carolina University held a Day of Remembrance to honor those killed during the Virginia Tech shooting. CCU has held a memorial each year since.
Coastal Carolina University will hold its eighth annual Day of Remembrance Ceremony on Wednesday, April 16, at noon in James P. Blanton Park in front of the Edward M. Singleton Building. The public is invited to attend.
The ceremony is designed to memorialize members of the CCU family, students, faculty and staff, who died during the previous year. The ceremony was initiated on April 20, 2007, to honor those who lost their lives during the Virginia Tech mass shooting on April 16, 2007.
A bell will toll for each CCU family member whose life was lost and once for all of the Virginia Tech victims.
