Timmonsville town council appoints new police chief

TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Timmonsville Town Council approved a former town police officer to become the new town's police chief.

In a 4 to 3 town council vote, Timmonsville Town Council appointed Gregory Palmer to take on the roll as Timmonsville Police Chief, once the town's police department is up and running.

Right now, council is still working on approving the annual budget, which means Palmer can't step into his roll until that budget is passed.

Also, before Palmer can take on the roll as chief he must pass some personnel matters, such as a background check.

Palmer has worked for several police departments across South Carolina.  He was a Timmonsville Police Officer before the force was dissolved.  He's currently a patrolman for Society Hill and a security officer.

There is no word when Palmer will begin his position.
