Sheriff Kenneth Sealy says on Wednesday, April 9 Dohn Caleb Bell's home on Oakgrove Church Road in Lumberton was broken into. A suspect in the break-in was 33-year-old Billy Ray Locklear of Ottimus Road in Pembroke.
On Thursday, April 10 at 8:19 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting on Union Chapel Road in Lumberton. Upon arrival, Locklear was found dead from a gunshot wound in the back yard of a home.
The investigation revealed that Locklear was shot near the home, ran to the home and collapsed in the backyard.
Sheriff Sealy says Bell has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder of Locklear. He is being held in the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
Sheriff Sealy says the major crimes unit is investigating.
