Neighbors take extra safety steps after Ripken shooting

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Ronin Sports mixed martial arts gym sits right next to the Ripken Experience baseball complex. General Manager Trevor Hayes said while this location is relatively new for the business, the area seemed pretty safe up until today.

"That was shocking I was just getting ready for the day and that's really surprising to hear," added Hayes. "I can't believe something like that would happen."

Hayes said he felt so comfortable in the area, he had no problem parking his car outside the gym near the ballpark overnight.

"We've left cars here over night and we are next to an auto shop where you see people leave cars and at the field over night," said Hayes. "There's never any issue."

After hearing about the break-ins and shooting Hayes said he will take extra precautions so he does not become the next victim.

"I probably won't be leaving my car here anymore that's crazy insane to hear."
