DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Darlington County Sheriff's deputy found seven packages containing an $250,000 worth of heroin after stopping a Myrtle Beach man on Interstate 20 Wednesday night.
At about 11:56 p.m. on April 9, a deputy stopped a truck driving east on Interstate 20 near exit 131 in Darlington County because the vehicle did not have a license plate light. During the stop, deputies were given consent to search the vehicle, and found two laundry detergent boxes that contained seven packages wrapped in electric tape.
Deputies used a field test kit on the off-white powder, which tested positive for heroin. The heroin has an estimated street value of over $250,000, officials stated.
The passenger of the vehicle, 43-year-old Mariano Martinez, from Myrtle Beach, claimed ownership of the drugs, was charged with trafficking heroin, and was transported to Darlington County Detention Center, where he awaits bond. The driver was issued a warning citation for not having a license plate light.
