DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - The NASCAR season turns its focus over to Darlington, and the Lady in Black will play host this weekend to a slew of drivers that are still in search for their first win of the season..
Under the new rules this year for the Sprint Cup, drivers qualify for the Chase for the Cup automatically with a race win. Through seven races, seven different drivers have earned a spot. The folks in Darlington wouldn't mind seeing that trend continue, especially to help add to the great season this has been so far.
"The momentum is building," explained Darlington Raceway president Chip Wile. "I feel like as an industry, there's just a lot more excitement this year. Everybody just has this feeling of excitement, and we feel like we really turned a corner. There's been a lot more people watching. I feel like there's been a lot more excitement in the air."
The VFW/SportClips Help a Hero 200 will roll on at 8:00 on Friday, and the flag will go up on the Bojangles' Southern 500 at 6:30.
