NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The city of North Myrtle Beach showed its support of a youth outreach program recently.
Mayor Marilyn Hatley presented a proclamation in support of SafePlace, a nationally acclaimed youth outreach program that involves the whole community in providing safe havens and resources for youths in crisis.
Community youth services agencies partner with community organizations to help young people.
The program creates a network of Safe Place locations that display the Safe Place sign. Locations include: youth-friendly businesses, schools, fire stations, libraries and other public buildings.
Locally, Sea Haven for Youth manages the Safe Place program.
Any youth texting 69866 will receive a response that includes the option to reply with "2chat" for help, which will link them to an interactive texting center to chat with a trained mental health professional.
