Darlington man sentenced to 170 months for drug charges

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - A Darlington man has been sentenced on federal drug charges.

Demetrious Antonio McWhite is convicted of conspiracy to possess and distribute 5 kilograms of cocaine and 280 grams of crack cocaine, according to Sheriff Wayne Byrd.

McWhite pleaded guilty and entered a plea on October 11, 2013.

He was sentenced to 170 months in federal prison this morning.

According to police, the investigation began in April 2011, and lasted until McWhite's arrest in June 2013.

Police conducted a controlled purchase of crack cocaine from McWhite. After executing a search at McWhite's home, police found more cocaine, crack cocaine and a handgun.

McWhite was indicted on seven counts and was a convicted felon at the time of his arrest.

This case was initiated by Florence County Sheriff's Office, Darlington County Sheriff's Office and the DEA Florence Resident Office.
