GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Police in Gastonia say someone used an unconventional method to steal electronics and fashions from a woman's home.
Authorities say when the homeowner returned from work, she found a hole in the hardwood floors in one of her bedrooms. She said the thief or thieves tore out the air conditioning and heating ducts. Damage to the floor was estimated at about $1,500.
Police think whoever did it entered an unlocked crawl space door.
Authorities say the woman lost a camera, a laptop, eight watches, handbags and nearly $500 in loose change. The report also said a .38-caliber semi-automatic pistol was stolen sometime Thursday.
While the homeowner said the home had a security system, a technician said it was installed too high, allowing the suspects to get inside undetected.
