OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WYFF) —A report released Friday in connection to the death of two children killed when their mother's car crashed on New Year's Day shows that the woman's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the wreck, and she was going 32 mph over the speed limit.

The report released by the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that Melissa Patton, of Oconee County, was driving at 87 mph when she illegally passed a vehicle on the right on Wells Highway at about 2:15 a.m., and she ran off the roadway, overcorrected to the left, and went off the road, crashing into the Utica Baptist Church sign before the car flipped over.

Patton's daughter's Saryia, 4, and Taniyia, 1, were trapped in the car and had to be extricated. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said Taniyia was found dead in her car seat. Saryia was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead moments later.

Patton and a male passenger were both treated and released.

Patton, 32, was charged with two counts of felony driving under the influence and driving under suspension.

The report Friday said that Patton blood alcohol level was .195, more than double the legal limit.

Patton was released on $50,652 bond a day after the crash.
