Local hospital offers free valet parking

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Grand Strand Regional Medical Center now offers free valet parking for everyone Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The hospital wanted to offer this service to make things easier for visitors and patients. On average 1000 people frequent the hospital, a day.

The hospital says the company hired to handle the service is reputable, with trained professional drivers who also act as ambassadors to the hospital, offering directions and providing information.

This is the second week for the service, but so far usage has been slow.

"I think people who come from big cities are surprised to learn that we have free parking throughout the campus," says Joan Carroza, the hospital spokesperson. "I think in a lot of big cities you pay for a parking garage or parking at a hospital and so, we've always had free parking so we wanted to offer free valet parking."

The valet is stationed at the Heart Center entrance.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
