Restaurant Scorecard: Mice droppings found at Georgetown eatery

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – This week, WMBF News has reports from routine inspections of several well-known Grand Strand restaurants performed by the Department of Health and Environmental Control.

The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in Georgetown scored a "B" with 78 out of 100 possible points with several violations, including a critical violation for mice droppings found around bulk food containers, according to the inspection report. Inspectors also noticed build-ups of grime and grease around the hand sinks, sides of work tables, floors, walls, and ventilation hood.

Ron Jon's Beer and Burgers in Myrtle Beach also scored a 78 out of 100. Inspectors with DHEC noted that many of the pieces of equipment and surfaces in the kitchen were not clean, including: a slicer blade, can opener, sink basins, prep table shelves, interior prep cooler, ventilation hood filters, and floors at the cookline, dish area, and ice machine. A follow-up visit was scheduled for next week.

The Sea View Inn in Pawleys Island scored 80 points during its inspection. About 23 cans of goods were seen with rusty and corroded lids, rims and bottoms, according to the DHEC inspection report. Food was seen thawing in standing water, and a bowl of raw chicken was stored above tomatoes in the walk-in cooler. The fan guards in the cooler were also rusty and corroded, the report states.

Argoes Hot Dog Stand and Broadway Subs in Myrtle Beach both received "A" ratings with 98 points each. Neither restaurant had any critical violations – inspectors observed that the floors in Broadway Subs were dirty in the corners, and a sink at Argoes was dirty.
