One year after new terminals opened, MYR looks to the future

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach International celebrated their new terminals' one year anniversary on Wednesday.

Kirk Lovell, the airport spokesperson, says the project has proven to be a success. Though many passengers are quite happy with the new terminal, some people are wondering what will happen with the old terminal.

"On the air side, past the security check point, we are already currently using one of the gates in the old building," Lovell says. "As demand warrants, we'll slowly grow into the building."

Lovell says that the old terminal is actually several different buildings. He says that are already using the gates there for departures. When asked what else is in the books for the old terminal he says there are many good ideas floating around.

"There's a lot of great ideas out there," Lovell says. We need to find out which one sticks and has the legs to be successful." He adds that they have to choose what is best for the space, community and the business and whatever they chose has to be the right choice.

"We really need to make sure we do it once and do it right," Lovell says.

The construction in front of the old terminal right now is the last parking lot. The lot is said to be finished by the end of May just before the height of tourist season.
