Troopers call off chase on Hwy 9 after driver drops kids off

Posted: Updated:

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A high-speed chase Wednesday morning that occurred on and around Highway 9 in North Myrtle Beach and Little River was called off for safety reasons after the driver dropped off two children on the side of the road and continued driving, according to a Highway Patrol official.

Troopers attempted to pull someone over for a traffic stop at about 7 a.m., according to Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The driver did not stop until they put two school-aged children out on the shoulder of the road, and then continued driving.

Troopers called off the chase for safety reasons, Cpl. Collins said. The children were taken from the road and are now safe with another guardian.

An arrest warrant is being issued for the driver.
