Pelicans kick off Season with Media Day

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Professional baseball will soon be returning to the beach.  The Pelicans season-opener is set for 7:00 p.m. at Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

The Pelicans held media day and their first workout on Tuesday. The team was together for a short time during Spring Training. Manager Joe Mikulik, South Atlantic League's all-time winningest manager, is entering his first season at the helm in Myrtle Beach but is dedicated to making this team better.

"It'll be challenge for all of us. We're trying to develop winners to win in Arlington" said Mikulik. "The process continues here, and it's an everyday process and a process that can be challenging."

The players are just as excited as their skipper to start the 2014 campaign.

"It feels good," said Pelicans pitcher Alex 'Chi Chi' Gonzalez. "We have a really talented team here and it's good to get out of Spring Training and get the games going that actually count now."

The Pelicans start their season Thursday evening against the Salem Red Sox. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
