MULLINS, SC (WMBF) – Mullins Police say a burglary suspect was trapped in an Arby's ventilation shaft for four to six hours Tuesday; police officers and Mullins Fire Rescue crews removed him and flew him to a nearby hospital.
According to Captain Joe Graham with Mullins Police, an Arby's employee called 911 at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when she came in and heard what sounded like someone walking on the roof.
The officer found the suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Laquain Deshawn Guy, stuck inside a ventilation shaft, calling out for help. The officer notified Mullins Fire Rescue crews.
Law enforcement and Mullins Fire Rescue had to cut through the shaft and pull him out through the roof, Capt. Graham said. Guy was extricated at about 8:30 a.m., strapped to a backboard, lowered to Emergency Medical Services, and taken by helicopter to a medical center in Florence.
Guy remains in the hospital with injuries, and currently faces a charge of second-degree burglary, Capt. Graham confirmed. Police are looking for a person of interest, but no information is available about them at this time.
