MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – After several weeks of voting, Myrtle Beach took the number one spot in a list of 10 best golf destinations in USA Today Travel's Readers' Choice Awards.

Readers voted until April 21 for the 10 best golf destinations in the world out of 20 chosen by USA Today's experts. Some of the competing locations included Augusta, Georgia, Kiawah Island, South Carolina, Maui, Hawaii, and even Scotland.

The winners were revealed on April 23 at noon, with Myrtle Beach topping the list. The entry states:

"In Myrtle Beach, there seems to be a golf course around every corner, and with some 100 area courses, the perception's not far from the truth. Pretty much every notable golf architect has a course in the "Golf Capital of the World," and a majority are public, making a golf trip to Myrtle Beach an affordable option."

Local golf courses are more than pleased with what the distinction will bring to Myrtle Beach.

"We will gain business, I think," says Ed Willever, Head Golf Pro at Wicked Stick Golf Course "Being number 1 in USA Today is nothing but positive for Myrtle Beach as a whole. Because I think anyone who was ever hesitant to come here and play golf and maybe had some skepticism - now I think they'll go ahead and give it a try. They'll give it a chance. Because it is nationally recognized. And I feel like once we get them here, they'll have such a great experience that they'll become one of those people that just keeps coming back every year."
