MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Dedrick McKinnon, 22, Markese Tunorial David, 23, and Quentin Moshaun Covington, 23, all of Bennettsville, have been arrested in connection to many crimes, according to the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office. One suspect remains at large.
Anthony Antoine Smith, 34, of Bennettsville is wanted for burglary, malicious damage to property, safecracking, grand larceny and attempted murder.
According to police, McKinnon, David, Covington and Smith are charged in connection to a burglary at Crossroads Grocery in Bennettsville that happened Friday, March 21 about 5 a.m.
Deputy Buddy Parker witnessed a red SUV at the door of Crossroads Grocery and realized a burglary had occurred and a chase ensued.
According to police, the SUV was dragging a large chain down the highway that was used by the suspects to snatch the lock off the door, before the suspects kicked the door open and stole part of the ATM, all of which is captured on video.
The vehicle stopped in the mobile home park near Daniels Lane in Bennettsville, and the three suspects fled on foot.
The ATM and several valuable pieces of evidence were recovered in a search of the vehicle. Police say evidence was found that linked suspects to other cases.
Officers from other law enforcement agencies, including SLED tracking teams and helicopters responded and were successful in capturing McKinnon and David.
McKinnon is charged with failure to stop for blue light, safecracking, damage to property, burglary and grand larceny. David is charged with same offenses excluding failure to stop for blue light.
Authorities opened several investigations to discover more evidence that suggests McKinnon and Covington are connected to an armed robbery that happened February 4. McKinnon and Covington have been charged in connection to that incident.
Involving this incident, McKinnon is charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm by felon, possession of firearm during commission of violent crime and assault and battery in the first degree.
Covington was arrested March 25 for driving under suspension and failure to pay child support. He has been charged in connection to the February armed robbery, in addition to possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
As a result of these investigations, Smith and McKinnon were charged in connection to a February burglary in Bennettsville. They are both charged with third-degree burglary and damage to property.
